Fashion has a big, fat sustainability problem. Despite countless initiatives to reduce the industry’s impact on the environment, its carbon footprint is set to skyrocket in the next 10 years. Is it really all down to fast fashion? It’s hard to argue the numbers. With people trying to keep up with the latest trends, there are reportedly over £30 billion of clothes languishing in UK wardrobes that haven’t been worn in at least 12 months. Hot on the heels of LFW, we’re asking what can be done to change mind-sets. Do we, as consumers, need to put our money where our mouths are when it comes to making sustainable fashion choices? Are those choices affordable? How easy is it to buy ethically when there’s so much conflicting information out there? What about slow fashion, upcycling, vintage?
